Apigenin 98% 20g

Apigenin (4′,5,7-trihydroxyflavone), found in many plants, is a natural product belonging to the flavone class that is the aglycone of several naturally occurring glycosides. It is a yellow crystalline solid that has been used to dye wool. It was first isolated from chamomile in 1914. Apigenin is found in small amounts in many fruits and vegetables, but parsley, celery, celeriac, and chamomile are the most common sources. Apigenin is particularly abundant in the flowers of chamomile plants, constituting 68% of total flavonoids. Dried parsley can contain about 45 mg/gram and dried chamomile flower about 3-5 mg/gram apigenin. The apigenin content of fresh parsley is reportedly 215.5 mg/100 grams, which is much higher than the next highest food source, green celery hearts providing 19.1 mg/100 grams.

How does Apigenin work?
As a flavonid apigenin has according to research anti-inflammatory properties through inhibition of the COX-2 enzyme. Research shows very potent anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties and supression of most types of cancer including leukemia, prostate-, breast-, stomach-, bladder-, ovary-, lung- and thyroid cancer. Apigenin has been shown to generally promote cellular health. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of apigenin also have been shown to enhance cognition and thereby booost brain function. In mice with Alzheimer’s disease it showed improved memory and learning deficits. In additon to the above, apigenin modulates the GABA receptors in the brain which promotes relaxation and it works as a natural anti-depressant. It furthermore has been proven to lower the blood pressure and show anti-diabetic effects. The major anti-aging properties are in addition to the anti-inflammatory function according to research due to its inhibition of CD38, which increases the NAD+ level and reduces age-related decline in testosteron levels.
